With the offshore oil and gas industry booming,
Bayards installed about 20 helidecks
aboard ships and on other offshore structures
during 2007. Most of these were supplied as
kits and were then installed on site under
Bayards’ supervision, but a few were delivered
as turnkey facilities complete with their required
aluminium substructure. About half went to
Samsung and Daewoo in South Korea. ‘For
2008,’ says Mackintosh, ‘we expect to deliver
even more than last year.’
In terms of volume, offshore work dominates,
but the onshore business is starting to
catch up, according to Mackintosh, since
‘in terms of value, rooftop helidecks are
much bigger projects’.
